Electric Plant Operator II/ Mechanic job opening

The City of West Point, Neb., has an opening for a full-time Electric Plant Operator II/ Mechanic employee to assist with the City’s Power Plant and Electric Department, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and weekend on call rotation. Duties include but are not limited to assisting the operation of the power plant projects and operations. The Employee will aid in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the city power plant, including but not limited to the City’s substations and distribution system and related equipment. The position will perform duties relating to operation of the power plant and distribution system, substations and metering to ensure the system complies with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Operating a variety of equipment including but not limited to a bucket truck, digger truck, loader and skid steer. Candidates must be able to use verbal and written directions, work safely, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Mechanical and Electrical experience preferred. The position may also assist other departments as necessary.  On-the-job training will be provided. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history, be physically able to perform manual labor, safely lift 50 lbs. without assistance, and safely perform repetitive physical tasks. Applicant must enjoy working outdoors in all weather. Starting hourly rate $23.83-$29.00 Competitive benefit package including health insurance, vacation and sick leave.
